What it is
When you live in someone else's home — a relative, a partner, a friend, a landlord with no written lease in your name — AIMA asks for proof that you have somewhere to live. The hosting declaration is that proof.
The person who houses you (the host) declares on their honour that you live at their address and that they take responsibility for your accommodation. It is the host's declaration, signed by the host — not yours.
When AIMA asks for it
It comes up in most residence processes at AIMA — family reunification, a first residence permit, work, independent activity, a child born in Portugal — whenever the applicant is neither the owner nor the tenant of the home.
It is a different document from your own declaration of address (declaração de morada), in which you state where you live and on what basis. Some files need one, some the other, some both.

The wording
The document AIMA receives is in Portuguese. This is the text the template produces; the blanks are the fields explained below.
Eu, [Full name of your host], portador(a) do documento de identificação n.º [Host's ID document (number)], declaro sob compromisso de honra que [Name of the person being hosted] reside no alojamento sito em:
[Full address of the accommodation]

What it says, in English
I, [Full name of your host], holder of identification document no. [Host's ID document (number)], declare on my honour that [Name of the person being hosted] resides at the accommodation located at:
[Full address of the accommodation]
I further declare that I assume responsibility for hosting the person identified above and that the information provided is true.
The fields
- Full name of your host
- The person declaring they host you in their home.
- Host's ID document (number)
- Citizen card, residence permit or passport.
- Full address of the accommodation
- Street, number, floor, postal code and town.
- Name of the person being hosted
- The person this process is for (pre-filled).
Signing it, and what to attach
A copy of the host's title of occupancy — the property deed or the rental contract — so the declaration rests on a document.
We recommend the host's signature be recognised (reconhecimento de assinatura). The declaration has no legal expiry; we suggest a recent one, signed within the 90 days before your appointment.
